Briefs: Library of Congress starts digital library

The U.S. Library of Congress Tuesday kicked off a campaign to work with other libraries across the globe to build a world digital library.

Internet search giant Google has already donated $3 million to the project.

The plan is to build on the American Memory project that was started up in 1994 to make cultural information -- including sound as well as text -- available in a digitized format. The world digital library will expand on the idea and include contributions from other countries.
