Motorola launches mobile-phone pay system

Motorola Wednesday launched a system to allow users to pay money via their mobile phones. M-Wallet allows users to pay for goods and services through their mobile accounts, including downloading gift certificates and collecting loyalty points.

The system works with GSM, CDMA or iDEN-equipped Motorola mobile handsets. Users need to download the application onto their phones via the Internet and then open their M-Wallet account.

鈥淢obile phones are no longer just about conducting conversations, they are now emerging as a center of people鈥檚 lives for every day transactions,鈥 said Navin Mehta, Motorola鈥檚 vice president of Applications Management. 鈥淲ith M-Wallet, Motorola continues to offer industry leading applications that not only bring convenience and flexibility to subscribers but help operators differentiate and advance their portfolios to increase mobile data usage.鈥

Motorola will be demonstrating the M-Wallet solution at 3GSM in Barcelona Feb. 13 -16, 2006.
