In Brief: Wi-LAN sells antenna unit to Indian firm

Canada's Wi-LAN said Tuesday it had finalized the sale of its wireless antenna manufacturing unit to India's Kavveri Telecom for just under $2 million.

Kavveri Managing Director Shivakumar Reddy said in a statement that its new TIL-TEK subsidiary had a solid reputation for wireless base-station antenna equipment and would be an important part of his company's planned expansion into the North American wireless market.

Kavveri distributes a wide range of wireless infrastructure equipment, including antennas, repeaters and cellular terminals.

Wi-LAN said the deal nearly wrapped up its divestiture of its Products Division with only the sale of Engineering and Services Group to Fujitsu still pending.

"Once completed, we will be a pure patent commercialization company," said Chairman Hatim Zaghloul.
