Mobile TV to come to Taiwanese cell phones

Inventec Appliances Corporation and Siano Mobile Silicon signed a deal in Taiwan Tuesday to integrate mobile digital TV receivers into handheld devices.

"Through the wide range of IAC's hand-held products, Siano will fulfill its motto of 'Enabling TV Everywhere,'" Siano Chief Executive Officer Alon Ironi said via a company statement.

The technology will take between six and eight months to develop and could arrive on the market around the end of 2007 or the beginning of 2008, a spokeswoman for Netanya, Israel-based Siano told United Press International.

"By the end of 2008, (mobile TV) is supposed to be part of the majority of people's handheld devices," the spokeswoman, Hilit Ghelber, added.

IAC is a Taiwanese manufacturer of "smart handheld devices," including mobile phones, PDAs, MP3 players and GPS navigators under the OKWAP brand name.

Siano already has cooperation agreements with other mobile manufacturers, including Compal Communications, which has developed phones for Motorola and Alcatel.
