In Brief: Siemens to supply Toronto WiFi equipment

Siemens Communications Group will supply the equipment for Toronto Hydro Telecom's planned WiFi network in the Canadian city.

Siemens has been selected as vendor of record for the equipment side of the project, which would make Toronto the largest WiFi zone in the country.

The WiFi mesh network will cover about 10 square miles and is expected to be deployed over the downtown area by the end of the year.

Siemens said in a news release late Monday it would use its Wireless Integration@vantage integration platform for access control and accounting purposes and network nodes from its Mesh@vantage MR line.

The details of the supply of equipment as well as implementation and other services were still being negotiated Monday.
