Facebook agrees with Canada on privacy controls

× close

(AP) -- Facebook is agreeing to give users more control over their information in response to concerns raised by Canadian privacy officials.

The changes include new notifications as well as technical changes that are supposed to give people more control over data they provide to third-party applications.

Last month, Canada's commissioner accused of disclosing personal information about users to the nearly 1 million third-party developers worldwide who create Facebook applications such as games and quizzes.

The report says the popular Web site lacks proper safeguards to prevent these developers from seeing users' profile information.

In a statement, the commissioner's office says it is satisfied Facebook is taking the right steps to address privacy gaps on its site.
