Cargo vessel links up with ISS after auto-docking problem

Cargo vessel Progress M-08M docked at the International Space Station on Saturday through a manual operation following a problem with the auto-docking system, the Russian control centre said.

"The will soon open the doors and start to unload the vessel, which will take several days," control centre official Valery Lyndin was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies.

The automatic docking attempt was abandoned about 200 metres (yards) from the ISS after an unexpected movement, another spokesman for the control centre told Interfax.

The Progress vessel is carrying 2.5 tonnes of food, water and fuel.

The ISS is orbiting 350 kilometres (220 miles) from the earth, and is home to three Russians and three Americans.
