Facebook tightens security for members on the move
US Facebook fans inclined to connect with the leading social networking site while out and about have a couple of new security tools at their disposal.
A "one-time password" feature being rolled out on Wednesday lets people avoid typing in their permanent passwords when using public or shared computers in places like hotels, cafes, or airports.
"If you have any concerns about security of the computer you're using while accessing Facebook, we can text you a one-time password to use instead of your regular password," Facebook integrity team member Jake Brill said in a blog post.
Facebook members can text the letters "otp" to 32665 from a mobile telephone in the United States to receive a temporary password that lasts for 20 minutes, according to Brill.
He expected the feature to be available throughout the United States in the coming weeks.
Facebook also gave members the ability to log out of their accounts remotely, so they can use any computers or smartphones to sign out of sessions started on other devices, according to Brill.
