YouTube, French authors, filmmakers reach deal

(AP) -- YouTube and top associations of French authors, filmmakers and other creative artists say they have struck an agreement to put more TV shows and movies online in France.

The deal with three major groups that represent creative talent in France paves the way for authors to get paid when their productions are put on Google's .

In the arrangement announced Thursday, YouTube is set to gain greater access to produced content and artists can benefit from greater protection for their craft in the new media landscape.

YouTube struck a similar deal with makers of in France in September.

A French competitor of YouTube, DailyMotion, announced plans a day earlier to feed content from 20 TV stations.
