EMC buys identification services firm Aveksa

(AP)—EMC Corp., a maker of data storage equipment, said Monday that it has acquired identity verification services company Aveksa, boosting the offerings of its own security division.

EMC, which is based in Hopkinton, Mass., did not say how much it paid for the privately held company. It will operate within EMC's , RSA.

The addition of Aveksa is meant to help RSA customers ensure that their users have appropriate and secure access to applications regardless of their location or device. Aveksa's technology is similar to that of EMC's RSA division and used by customers in financial services, healthcare, retail, energy, telecommunications, transportation and manufacturing.

EMC said it doesn't expect the acquisition to significantly affect its results this year.

EMC shares rose 22 cents to $24.35 in afternoon trading.
