Small earthquake shakes southern Nevada

Southern Nevadans who thought they felt the earth shake before dawn weren't dreaming.

Seismologists at the University of Nevada, Reno say a magnitude 2.9 temblor was recorded at 5:38 a.m. Monday. The was centered about 5 miles southeast of Boulder City.

Seismologists say they received numerous reports of short-duration ground shaking from people in Boulder City and Henderson.

Ken Smith is associate director of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory at the University of Nevada, Reno. He says it's possible, yet just as unlikely, that the quake may be a foreshock to a larger event.
