The latest version of the Firefox Internet browser was released by Mozilla to an anxious techie audience late Tuesday.
The upgrade is called Firefox 1.5 and offers users faster back-forward speeds, better pop-up blocking and the ability to report defunct Web sites.
"It's going to render your web pages faster, and the automatic update feature will make sure your browser is always up to date," said Mozilla Vice President Mike Schroepfer.
Initial reaction to the browser by the high-tech media was restrained and aimed largely at the high stakes for Mozilla as it competes with the ubiquitous Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Red Herring noted that Microsoft plans to update Internet Explorer next summer, while Firefox 2 is slated for a 2007 release.
