India's latest communications satellite was in orbit and transmitting normally Friday following its launch from French Guiana.
INSAT-4 was in position to be maneuvered into geostationary orbit above the Equator in the coming days and will begin direct-to-home television service in the subcontinent.
India's Space Research Organization reported that the bird's array of 24 ku and C-band transponders were working normally following the launch aboard an Ariane 5 rocket provided by Europe's Arianespace.
