Briefs: National Semi out with backlight drivers

National Semiconductor Monday unveiled a trio of white light-emitting diode drivers for backlit displays on cell phones and other wireless devices.

The inductor-less drivers will accommodate the design of smaller devices with extended battery life, National said in a news release.

"The exceptional current matching is ideal for uniform lighting in thin handheld devices," said National Marketing Director Mark Davidson.

The devices are usable in MP3 players and portable gaming devices as well as phones and are dubbed LM27951, LM27952 and LM27964.

The drivers offer current matching of 1 percent between LEDs for uniform brightness across the entire display. They power up to four LEDs with 30 milliamps through each LED.
