IBM to acquire Rembo Technologies
IBM announced Friday it has reached an agreement to acquire Geneva, Switzerland-based software company Rembo Technology.
Details of the agreement were not disclosed, but the company said the acquisition would be completed in the second quarter of 2006.
According to IBM, Rembo's software helps organizations automatically install or upgrade operating systems on thousands of servers, laptops and desktop computer simultaneously, by allowing an IT administrator to install operating systems from a centralized "dashboard" in a few seconds.
Moreover, its security features also protect workstations used by multiple people in a virtualized environment by automatically "wiping away" operating systems and personal data after each use and re-installing clean software such as university computers, IBM said.
Rembo has some 800 customers worldwide including the City of Munich, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the University of South Australia, the University of Wisconsin and the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.
