Germany's T-Mobile to cut 900 US jobs
Germany's T-Mobile, the fourth-largest wireless telecommunications company in the United States, said Tuesday it would cut 900 jobs as part of a company-wide restructuring.
"These changes resulted in a restructuring of key functions and departments across the company including the elimination of some positions and the outsourcing of others," a T-Mobile spokesman said in an email to AFP.
"Approximately 900 employees will be leaving T-Mobile as a result of the restructure," he added.
T-Mobile is the US wireless operation of Deutsche Telekom, which struck a deal last year to sell the firm to AT&T for $39 billion. In mid-December AT&T abandoned the acquisition in the face of stiff opposition from US regulators.
The Financial Times reported last week that Deutsche Telekom is now considering a tie-up for T-Mobile with MetroPCS Communications, a US wireless provider.
